Once you’ve established you’ll be hiring a skip, to ensure your waste is disposed of effectively – you may be scratching your head as to where to begin the hiring process. If it is your first time hiring a skip, this guide will simply explain the steps you’ll need to take to remove waste efficiently from your project, ensuring your timings are adhered to and your schedule is maintained.

To make this a simple and easy process, we’ve put together a simple hiring guide of the steps you’ll be going through to remove waste from your project, whether it be domestic or commercial.

Which skip size should I get?

Whether it’s large or small, we offer a skip to fit all needs. Smaller skips are generally better for domestic projects and can hold around 25 rubbish bags. For larger jobs – 40-yard skips are able to hold a capacity of up to 400 bin bags – perfect for a big commercial project. Of course, there are many different sizes in between these, more information can be found here.

You order of skip will also depend on whether you need it to be open or closed – or perhaps you would like a drop skip or an RO / RO container.

After assessing the size of your job, the choice of skip should suit the capacity expected, but, if you still need assistance when deciding which skip picking, do not hesitate to get in contact with our friendly team, who will be able to advise you further depending on your needs.

Can I hire a skip in my location?

Depending on where your job or project is located, ideally, you’ll be able to hire a skip from a company who are able to accommodate your acute needs at short notice if needed. At Aasvogel – we are able to service a number of areas, including towns, cities and places in between Newbury and Oxfordshire.

What can I put in my skip?

The regulations surrounding what can be thrown away in skips are strict, to some extent.

There are certain materials that are strictly forbidden to be thrown into skips, such as asbestos and waste electrical goods. Due to the health risks associated with asbestos – notably the size of the particles released when the material is broken down and inhaled as a byproduct, the law now states the material has to be disposed of by a specialist contractor. Aasvogel offers asbestos removal, for more information, click here.
